In January 2018, Premier Skills once again teamed up with West Bromwich Albion to run our Professional Opportunities course. Ash Malcolm from the WBA Academy joined over 60 players on the course in Auckland, New Zealand.
Premier Skills Director - Roger Wilkinson said it was a major coup bringing a coach of Malcolm's quality out to NZ and gave the players on the course tremendous insight into the Academy system.
"Ash is one of WBA's leading young coaches, he was an Academy player at the club and has now transitioned into an outstanding coach. To be able to bring Ash and all his experience out to NZ was hugely valuable to the players"
Over 60 players attended the Auckland course with the age ranging from 11-17. The players took part in 2 training sessions every morning followed by assessment matches in the afternoon. The course content covered a variety of themes from Staying with the ball to Link and combination play in the top third.
Malcom said the experience of coming out to NZ was one he would not forget and that he was impressed with the standard of play.
"I loved the country and everyone at Premier Skills treated me with great warmth, overall it was a fantastic trip. The pace of the game in NZ is definitely not as quick as the UK, but having said that the skill level of the players was very high and there was definitely a few of the players that would have a chance of doing very well in England"
Premier Skills maintains a strong link with WBA and continues to provide unique opportunties for Kiwi based players without having to leave NZ.
